There are museums related to arts and crafts, culture and lifestyle and historical significance of Jaipur inside the Walled City in premises of many monuments such as Hawa Mahal, Amber Palace, A UNESCO World Heritage site, Ghat ki Guni, Jaigarh, Nahargarh to name a few. Apart from these as well, the city sports many cultural centres and museums dealing with the different aspects of the rich legacy and heritage of the city.
- Albert Hall
The foundation of the museum was laid in 1876 as a part of the visit of Prince of Wales, Albert Edward to Jaipur. The museum is amongst the oldest in the city and houses a varied collection of coins, miniature paintings, arms, crystal and glass objects to name a few. The museum also is in possession of an Egyptian mummy, making it one of the only few Indian museums to have one. - Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum (City Palace Museum)
The palace complex was built in parts by the many rulers of the city after its foundation. The museum is now run by the MSMS II Museum Trust. The museum is home to the collection of the former rulers of the city including textiles, arms, photographs and paintings, pre-motorised transports to name a few. - Museum of Legacies
The former Rajasthan School of Arts housed in Pandit Shiv Deen ki haveli on Kishanpol Bazar is now functioning as a Museum of legacies based on arts and crafts of Jaipur. This Museum is managed by the Department of Art & Culture and is used primarily to showcase artworks of indigenous master craftsmen of Jaipur on a rotational basis. Promotion and outreach events are also held here on specific days of local importance.
Over the years museums run by private organizations have opened up in Jaipur with a specific theme to their collection like; the Anokhi Museum of hand printing showcasing the art & heritage of wood-block printing; the Sanjay Sharma Museum majorly looking at manuscripts from around the country; Gyan Museum designed by Paul Mathieu displaying the collection of Late Mr Gyan Chand; the Doll Museum looks at the art of making dolls in different cultures and traditions; the Rajasthan Rural Arts Program (RRAP) Music Museum & Hub dedicated to promoting and preserving the local and folk musical art forms; Museum of Gem & Jewellery seeks to educate people on the different aspects of gemmology and lastly the Amrapali Museum Jaipur run by a global brand seeks to display the everyday life of people through their ornaments.
There are other cultural centres like Jawahar Kala Kendra built by Architect Charles Correa on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg across the city with good interpretation facilities for arts, crafts and culture of Jaipur. It also facilitates the city with a museum and art galleries, exhibitions and conventions, auditorium and amphitheatre and a library.
