Kundan, which means highly refined gold, uses the malleability of pure gold to create intricate designs with uncut diamond or gemstone settings. The process begins with gadhai creating intricate gold strips and moulding them into geometric designs. This is followed by khudai in which the piece is engraved with lac or gold. The process of minakari here helps enhance the beauty of the piece. This is followed by the jadayi process in which semi-precious stones are set in the jewellery completing the piece. Floral motifs are commonly used.
