Metal Working

Brass and other metalware in their various forms became extremely popular during the early nineteenth century in Jaipur. Ranging from architectural elements in the form of building spires (kalasha), ornamental doorways with metal engraving on wood to general household items such as plates and cooking utensils, metal became a widely used and extensively adapted material for different craft expressions. Woodcrafts such as the carving of the blocks used in block printing emerged as creative forms in their own right. These crafts are still practised within Jaipur city.
