Thateras
One of the oldest community in the city is that of thateras who beat brass into fine sheets and mould it with hand to create vessels of daily use. Utensils can use multiple flat sheets joint together at different places to create a single vessel. To preserve the colour of the brass, yellow mud paste is rubbed on all the pieces to be joined. This prevents the surface from losing its lustrous quality on being heated in a coal furnace. After the firing and the polishing process, the vessel is continuously hammered all over forming circular stripes that give it the texture that is visible on the end product.
